(Marmora, ON) – Sometime between July 24, 2015 and July 27, 2015 copper ground wire was cut and removed from several hydro poles on William Street in the Municipality of Marmora and Lake.
Copper ground wire runs from the transformer at the top of the pole along the side of the pole to the ground and are designed to safely dissipate lightning strikes or current surges of electricity to the ground. Cutting and removing these ground wires eliminates the safety features that prevent electricity or lightning from hurting people or entering and damaging a home and contents.
Central Hastings O.P.P and Hydro One encourage customers to immediately report any suspicious activity and/or thefts around electrical utility equipment. Scrap metal dealers and the member of the public can also report suspected copper thefts anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
