(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On Sunday, August 2, 2015 at approximately 4:36 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to Southgate Road 14, south east of Hopeville, in the Township of Southgate after receiving a report of a large tent that had collapsed injuring several people.
Approximately 100 people had been under the tent attending a private social event on Southgate 14 when the incident occurred. Inclement weather, consisting of very strong winds, rain and hail passed through the area at the time. The tent collapsed and, as a result, nine (9) people were injured. They were taken to area hospitals and treated for minor injuries.
Emergency Services from Grey County, Dufferin County, Wellington County and Simcoe County assisted at the scene.
The Ministry of Labour was notified.
