(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 35 calls for service on Thursday August 20 including a break and enter, domestic disputes and thefts.
Domestic Disputes
OPP officers investigated four domestic disputes on Thursday. One male was charged with criminal harassment and domestic mischief. No other criminal offences occurred.
Break and Enter
A residence on Fourth Avenue in Renfrew was entered prior to 8 pm on August 20. The homeowner returned home to see a male and female exiting the home. The two got into a 4 door maroon coloured car and drove away. A play station 3 game console and LG home theatre receiver were missing. The homeowner advised a rear door may have been unlocked and allowed access to the home. Provincial Constable Walid Kandar is investigating.
Theft
Several unlocked vehicles in Arnprior or nearby in McNab Braeside Township have been entered overnight and valuables stolen. Stolen property includes an Iphone, a purse and wallet, a wallet and identification. At least one victim reported a stolen Visa used at two nearby convenience stores prior to the discovery of the theft. Police are continuing to investigate. Motorists are reminded to always remove valuables from your vehicle and lock your vehicle when not in use. If you can’t afford to lose something, or don’t want to go through the inconvenience of replacing stolen identification, don’t leave it behind in an unlocked vehicle. Locking a vehicle might not stop a thief, but it will slow them down, or make them think twice about which vehicle to target.
Trespass at Night
Renfrew OPP officers are seeking public assistance in identifying the male seen in the attached photo. This male has been trespassing on a property on Haig Avenue in Renfrew frequently this summer. He knocks on the door and runs away. If you think you know this male person please call the Renfrew OPP at 613-432-3211
Dogs in Hot Car
A charge has been laid after an investigation into two dogs being left in a hot vehicle in Renfrew on July 11. Provincial constable Amanda Carruthers led the investigation after several people reported two dogs in distress in a hot vehicle at approx. 1:30 pm when the outside temperature was 32. After obtaining video footage which showed the suspect left the animals alone in the vehicle for longer than the suspect admitted to, and several witness statements the charge was laid. Jonathan EBER 35 of Ottawa was charged with causing an animal to be in distress, contrary to the Prevention of Cruelty to animals Act. He was issued a summons to appear in court in Renfrew on September 18. Pet owners are encouraged to leave their animals at home during the shot summer months.
