(POWASSAN, ON) – On August 29, 2015 members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Powassan Detachment responded to a 9-1-1 call of a missing male on Commanda Lake, Patterson Township at approximately 7:20 p.m.
Witness report that a canoe had capsized and saw the canoeist swimming towards shore and believed he was towing his canoe to shore. Witnesses attended to offer assistance, but when they arrived at the canoe location, the male was not in site.
North Bay OPP Marine Unit, Forensic Identification Unit (FIU), North Bay and District Ambulance Service, and Restoule and District Fire Department assisted in the search without success.
The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) were called in to assist and located the body of Scott JOHNSON, age 68 of Norfolk County, approximately 450 feet from shore.
