(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Sunday, August 30, 2015 at approximately 8:13 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thunder Bay Fire Department and Superior North EMS responded to a three vehicle collision on Highway 61, just north of Chippewa Road.
The driver of a Pontiac G5 was south bound on Highway 61 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and entered the north bound lane. That driver then collided with a north bound Mazda 3, which then collided with the driver of a Nissan Maxima who was also north bound.
Two of the drivers were extricated by fire and ambulance personnel.
All three drivers of the vehicles were transported to hospital by ambulance. The male driver of the Mazda 3 and the female driver of the Pontiac G5 suffered serious injuries.
There were no other occupants in the vehicles. All of the vehicles sustained extensive damage.
The investigation is continuing.
