(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples;
Aug 31:
– Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home. As a result of the investigation, a female was arrested and charged with domestic assault and breach of recognizance. She was held for a bail hearing. Names withheld.
– Police attended a Trent Hills home in response to a domestic disturbance where dishes and a glass were broken during an argument. No one was injured and the couple were separated for the night. No charges resulted.
– Two complaints received about Sea Doo’s being reckless on Rice Lake. Northumberland OPP marine unit located the operators and did not observe any infractions. They were cautioned without charges.
Sept 1:
– Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Cramahe Twp residence where a couple were arguing over disciplining their children. No charges resulted and they were separated for the night.
– Report of youths causing damage in the area of King Edward Park in Brighton at 3:52am. Officers located three youths and drove them home. Nothing damaged
– Police attended a Hamilton Twp rental unit for a landlord complaining about his tenant not cutting the grass. Officers advised him that his concerns should be directed to the Landlord and Tenant Board, not the police. – A resident on County Rd 2 Hamilton Twp reported his unlocked truck entered sometime this evening. Items taken include a small pocket knife, $30 cash and a H&S engine decoder valued at $1,400. The public is reminded to lock their vehicles at all times and to keep valuables with them.
Sept 2:
– A tourqoise/white paddle boat (Sundolphin Sunslider) was found floating along Trent River near Trent River Village. The owner is asked to contact police at 705-653-3300 to arrange its return.
– A Brighton mother contacted police for advice about mental health issues with another family member. To access services in your area dial 211 or visit http://www.211ontario.ca/
– A westbound blue Ford Explorer was stopped on Hwy 401 in the Hamilton Twp area for weaving within its lane. The driver was found to be sober but tired. The 54 yr old Whitby man was charged with Failing to Drive in marked Lane and Using Validation Not Furnished for Motor Vehicle (improper sticker). The SUV was towed from the scene.
Sep 3:
– Three assault complaint investigations initiated at the Warkworth Institution
– Police attended a Brighton residence where a father and his adult daughter were arguing. Officers managed to calm things down. No charges resulted
– A 78 yr old Brighton man had his foot get stuck on the brake pedal causing him to lose control of his van which crashed in to a Brighton business storefront on Elizabeth St. There were customers in the store however no one was injured. No charges resulted and the man drove the van away from the scene. The damage to the store was extensive.
Northumberland OPP also conducted four RIDE programs, investigated 17 motor vehicle collisions and 47 traffic related complaints.
