Helmetless E-Biker Operator Tasered – SIU Invoke Mandate

(TECUMSEH, ON) – Members of the Essex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a male party operating an e-bike without helmet in Tecumseh Ontario just before 8:00 p.m. on September 16, 2015. The male party, was also known by OPP to be prohibited from driving a motor vehicle in Canada.

Officers attempted to arrest the male party and he resisted. Police were required to deploy the Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) to assist in affecting the arrest. The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

OPP has charged 42-year-old Jason Jeffery JOHNSON with; Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest and Prohibited Driving contrary to the Criminal Code.

The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to the SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
