Distracted Drunk Driver Caught On Exeter Main Street

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A 47-year-old driver from Exeter is facing an Over 80 criminal charge and two provincial offences following a traffic stop that took place this Sunday afternoon. Just after 3:30 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a driver operating a Chevrolet Cruze on Main Street in Exeter. The officer noticed the driver was using his cell phone as he was driving down the roadway. A traffic stop was conducted and upon speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. The officer also noted an open bottle of beer was lying on the passenger seat.

A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Lucan OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 47-year-old Kenneth MILLER from Exeter has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Drive Motor Vehicle While Using a Hand-Held Communication Device and Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter on November 26, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
