(GODERICH, ON) – Police have charged a 19-year-old novice driver with Street Racing after he was spotted racing along Suncoast Drive in the Town of Goderich. On September 17, 2015 at approximately 9:22 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a Chrysler Neon travelling westbound on Suncoast Drive East in an apparent race with the driver of a Lexus sedan. The officer watched as both vehicles raced side by side at an estimated speed of 100 km/h. The officer followed both vehicles on Suncoast Drive to the intersection of Suncoast Drive and Bayfield Road. Once they got to the intersection the vehicles split up. The officer managed to stop the driver of the Chrysler Neon on Bayfield Road.
The young male driver was arrested for the offence of Racing and was searched upon arrest. Upon searching the male a small quantity of marihuana was found in his possession. As a result, 19 year old William CURRAN has been charged with Racing and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cannabis Marihuana). He has a court date scheduled for October 19, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic seven day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
