(ORILLIA, ON) – Members with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Anti-Rackets Branch Health Fraud Investigation Unit have charged two doctors associated to independent health care facilities in Ontario.
A case referral was received from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care about radiologists that appeared to have received payment for services that were never rendered. MIC Medical Imaging (MIC) is owned by Dr. Mukesh JAIN, a radiologist, and Dr. Minto JAIN, a surgeon. The police investigation revealed that MIC billed OHIP for chest ultrasounds that were never performed. Patients visited MIC clinics located in Orangeville, Bolton, or Cambridge.
As a result, Mukesh (Mick) JAIN – aged 45 years of Mississauga, and Minto JAIN – aged 48 years of Mississauga are charged with Fraud Over $5000, contrary to section 380(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada. They are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on November 19th.
