Man With Hatchet Attempts To Break Into Residence

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On Friday, October 2, 2015, at approximately 5:36 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a residence on Grey Rd. 109 in the Township of Southgate in response to a male who had threatened the home owner and caused damage to property after being refused entry to speak with his ex-girlfriend who was staying there.

The accused retrieved a hatchet axe from his pick-up truck and proceeded to hit the door frame repeatedly with the axe in an effort to gain entry to the house. He then drove his pick-up truck across the front yard causing damage to the lawn before ramming his truck into the back of vehicle parked in the driveway.

Police arrested the 33-year old West Grey man at the scene without incident. He was held for a bail hearing. His next court appearance is scheduled for today, Monday, October 5, 2015 in Owen Sound where he will answer to the following criminal charges:

Mischief Under $5,000 (x2)

Mischief Over $5,000

Utter Threats – Cause Death

Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

Assault with a Weapon
