(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On October 2, 2015 at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a 1999 Dodge Dakota that was locked on radar travelling at 101 km/h in a 50 km/h zone thru the intersection of Belsyde Avenue and Tower Street in Fergus, Centre Wellington Township without any headlights on.
While speaking with the driver police detected the strong odour of alcohol on his breath and noted other signs of impairment. Police also observed open alcohol inside the vehicle.
A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local Operation Centre for further testing.
The driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
20-year-old Jacob BINKLE of Nichol Township has been charged with Impaired Driving and Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada as well as Race a Motor Vehicle, Driver without proper headlights contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Driving with Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act. He is to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on October 27, 2015 to answer to the charges.
