Two Arrested For Giant Tiger Fraud

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Thursday, October 1, 2015, Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a male and female from South Bruce Peninsula in connection to an ongoing fraud investigation.

The suspects attended the Giant Tiger store located on Hwy. 6 & 21 (Springmount) in the Township of Georgian Bluffs on three separate occasions; September 20th, September 25th and September 27th. There, they would take items from within the store, then proceed to the check-out where they convinced store employees that they were returning the items without a receipt. Each time, the suspects were given a refund card.

Lisa Marie PHARAND, 33, was charged with three counts of Fraud Under $5000; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 and Breach of Recognizance.

Justin Wayne HILLIER, 27, was charged with three counts of Fraud Under $5000; and two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.

Both were held for a bail hearing on October 1, 2015. HILLIER remains in custody.

Their next court appearance is scheduled for October 15, 2015 in Owen Sound.
