William Thomas KAY – Drunk Driving

(TAY TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Sunday November 1, 2015 at 6:66 p.m. an officer from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) travelling on the shoulder of the road towards a trailer attached to a parked pick-up truck on Highway 12 Tay Township. The All-Terrain vehicle had fallen off the trailer and was being retrieved by the owner.

The officer spoke to the driver of the ATV. The driver smelled of alcohol and was given a roadside test which resulted in “fail”. He was arrested and taken to Southern Georgian Bay detachment for further tests.

As a result, William Thomas KAY (age 31) from Tay Township has been charged with:

– Driving While Ability Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland Ontario on November 12, 2015.

As of the beginning of October (2015), 227 people have died on OPP-patrolled roads. A total of 29 of the deaths were alcohol/drug related. Impaired driving remains the leading cause of criminal death in Canada. The OPP would like to remind the public that drinking and driving and impaired by drug while operating an ATV is a criminal offence and carries the same penalties as operating a vehicle
