At 8:00 PM on November 19th, Wingham police were conducting a routine R.I.D.E. Check on Josephine Street when a vehicle attempted to pass through without stopping. Police stopped the vehicle to determine if the driver had been drinking. While speaking with the elderly male driver, police noticed that he appeared disoriented.
He was asking for directions to a highway about 80 kilometers away and said he was just heading home for supper. A records check was conducted which revealed that he had just been reported missing by his family to York Regional Police. The man was taken to the Wingham Police Station until a family member could attend to pick him up. This incident ended well but it could easily have turned out much different if the man had turned off the main roads or if the weather conditions had not been good.
