Occurrence Type: 911 use

Occurrence #: Multiple

Date: Thursday, June 18, 2015 (All day)

During the dayshift hours of June 18th the BPS received more than 16 calls to the 911 emergency system which were either non emergency or accidental dials.

As 911 calls take priority, the resources utilised responding to are extensive. This means that important but lower priority calls don’t get answered as quickly as they otherwise would.

Police are once again asking members of the public to use 9-1-1 only in emergency situations and be more vigilant of accidental dials on their cellular phones.
