On Sunday, August 9, 2015, at 6:45 p.m., police responded to a theft that had taken place at Walmart, located on Bayfield Street, City of Barrie.
Upon arrival loss prevention officers advised police they had arrested a male for theft under $5,000. They indicated the male had been identified as the suspect responsible for three previous thefts over the past few months.
In previous thefts, the male had been observed on video surveillance exiting Walmart with a shopping cart of items, then getting into a vehicle that had been waiting in the parking lot, and quickly fleeing the area.
The 33-year-old, Barrie male, was arrested by police and charged with four counts of theft under $5,000. He was released on a promise to appear, and is to appear in a Barrie court in September.
Occurrence Type: Sparks Catch Beat Officers Attention

On Saturday, August 8, 2015 shortly after, 3:00 a.m., while on foot patrol downtown, CORE Unit officers observed a vehicle travelling on only three wheels.
The vehicle had been travelling eastbound on Dunlop Street, and could be seen from miles away as a result of sparks igniting from rear tire, which was flat.
Officers were able to stop the vehicle at five points. The male driver had displayed many signs of impairment while speaking to officers.
The 60-year-old, Orillia male, was arrested for impaired driving, and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He was transported to the Barrie Police Station, at which time he provided a breath sample and blew over the legal limit. He was further charged with over 80.
Once sober, the male was released on a promise to appear and will appear in a Barrie Court at the end of August.
