H.T.A. violation leads to criminal charges
On August 15, 2015 at 6:42 p.m., the Guelph Police observed a motorcycle drive through a red light at Gordon Street and College Avenue. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the rider refused to stop. The bike finally stopped for a red light at Wellington Street and Wyndham Street where the officer approached on foot. The rider again tried to flee but the officer was able to stop him. A struggle ensued as the rider was arrested.
Derek Grady, 32 years of Guelph has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police and resist arrest. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with red light – fail to stop. He will appear in court on September 29, 2015.
Drive over 80 mg – arrest
On August 15, 2015 at 1:27 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Waterloo Avenue and after speaking with the male driver, a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. The driver failed this test and was arrested.
Jeffrey Mills, 41 years of Guelph, has been charged with drive over 80mgs. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act for drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit. He will appear in court on August 28, 2015.
Impaired driver – arrest
On August 15, 2015 at 1:50 a.m., the Guelph Police received the report of an impaired male about to leave a parking lot on Woodlawn Road East in his car. Police located the vehicle and driver still in the parking lot. He was spoken to and subsequently arrested.
Paul Tarrant, 45 years of Kitchener has been charged with care and control impaired and refuse to provide a breath sample. He will appear in court on October 2, 2015.
Impaired driver – arrest
On August 14, 2015 at 8:38 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Phelan Court and Cooper Driver to assist the O.P.P. who had located a vehicle and driver in a field. It was determined that the driver had been drinking alcohol and he was arrested.
Sharif Homayoon, 39 years of Kitchener has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg.
Bicycle theft – male arrested
On August 15, 2015 the Guelph Police arrested a male after an investigation into a stolen bicycle. The male had been riding the bike downtown on August 1st when police stopped him. Police seized the bike when he could not explain where he purchased it. Investigation later discovered that the bicycle had been reported stolen from John F. Ross High School on July 30, 2015.
Wilfred Couling, 38 years of Rockwood has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime. He will appear in court on September 29, 2015.
Intoxicated females taken to hospital
On August 14, 2015 at 6:21 p.m., the Guelph Police went to the Stone Road Mall to assist security with two intoxicated females. The females aged 15 and 16 admitted to consuming alcohol and a large quantity of prescription cough medicine. They were both taken to hospital by GWEMS for precautionary reasons.
Theft from cars
Over the weekend the Guelph Police received seven reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Halesmanor Court, Robin Road, Bond Court, Hawthorne Place, Renfield Street and two on Woodlawn Road East.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
