Hit And Run Driver Hits By-Law Officer In Front Of School

On September 8th, 2015 at approximately 08:40 hours, a city of Cambridge By-Law officer was struck by a vehicle as he was conducting parking enforcement in front of Avenue Public School. The male officer was struck while issuing a parking ticket when the driver of the vehicle sped away. The officer suffered minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle, a 42 year old Cambridge woman, was dropping her children off at the school. She drove away when the by-law officer approached her car to give her the ticket. She was located by police and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failing to Remain at the Scene of an Accident. She was released on a Promise to Appear. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident are being asked to call Waterloo Regional Police Service at 519-653-7700 ext. 2299. Parents are reminded of the importance of road safety especially as we embark on a new school year.
