Guelph Police Weekend Report

Robbery

In the early morning hours of September 12, 2015 the Guelph Police responded to a panic alarm at the Little Short Stop located at 494 York Road. While responding to the alarm officers were informed that a robbery had just occurred at that location. Officers including a Canine unit responded but were unsuccessful in locating the suspects who made off with an undisclosed amount of cigarettes and cash.

The Guelph Police Service is asking for anyone that might have been in the area of York Road and Victoria Road South between 3:45 a.m. – 4:15 a.m. to please contact 519-824-1212 – D/Cst Chris Sutter (ext. 7248) or D/Cst John Hunt (ext.7359). Weekend R.I.D.E.

On September 12/13, 2015 between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. the Guelph Police conducted a RIDE program in the City of Guelph. 640 vehicles were checked by officers with 23 roadside screening tests being administered. Police issued six 3 day suspensions, one 24 hour suspension and eight Provincial Offence Notices. Three of the drivers registered a fail on the Approved Screening Device and were arrested.

Adam Thompson, 23 years of Richmond Hill has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on September 25, 2015.

Robert Czernecki, 35 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on September 29, 2015.

Stefano Alfano, 19 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on September 29, 2015.

Guelph Police would like to remind drivers that between now and the holiday season police will continue to conduct random spot checks for persons driving under the influence of alcohol. Registering breath samples over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood will result in an immediate 90 day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension. Convictions for impaired driving and driving with over 80 mgs will both result in a minimum of 12 month driving prohibition.

Pedestrian struck – charged

On September 11, 2015 at 7:20 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Gordon Street to investigate a vehicle/pedestrian collision. The pedestrian attempted to cross Gordon Street between College Avenue and Stone Road in heavy traffic, in an area that was not controlled by a cross walk. The pedestrian allegedly slipped before being struck by the motor vehicle.

The pedestrian, an 18-year-old male from Oakville sustained an injury to his face and was transported to Guelph General Hospital, treated and released a short time later. He has been charged with pedestrian-fail to use cross walk under the Highway Traffic Act.

Single vehicle collision

On September 12, 2015 at 8:46 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Carrington Drive for a single vehicle collision. The vehicle was on Carrington when it left the roadway, striking a fence and then a residence. Damages are estimated at approximately $6,000. No injuries were reported.

A 26-year-old Guelph male has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Break and enter’s

-On September 11, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Skov Crescent residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the garage by damaging the door sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. and stole a motorized bicycle.

-On September 11, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Stevenson Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the unlocked garage sometime during the day. Several small items are reported stolen.

-On September 12, 2015, the Guelph Police went to an Elizabeth Street business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) smashed a window to gain access sometime overnight. A television and satellite box was stolen.

-On September 12, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Gordon Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered through an unlocked door sometime overnight. A bar fridge and weights are reported stolen.

-On September 13, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Stevenson Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered through an unlocked front door on September 12 between 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. while the residence were home. A cell phone is reported stolen.

-On September 13, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Eugene Drive residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the unlocked garage on September 12 sometime between 10: a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and stole two bicycles.

Vehicle damaged – arrest made

On September 12, 2015 at 12:58 p.m. the Guelph Police went to Woolwich Street to investigate the report of damage to a vehicle. Investigation alleges that the damage was caused by a male that the complainant had been having issues with. The male was located and arrested.

Wade Currie-Wade, 28 years of Guelph has been charged with mischief to property and two counts of breach of probation. He will appear in court on September 14, 2015

Assault – arrest

On September 13, 2015 at 12:50 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a downtown establishment to investigate an assault. It is alleged that staff was dealing with an altercation in the bar when a bystander punched one of them. The male was detained until police arrived and he was arrested.

Tyler Casaluce, 20 years of Waterdown has been charged with assault. He will appear in court on October 27, 2015.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received six reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Koch Drive, Cole Road, Westmount Road, Edinburgh Road South and two on Cheltonwood Avenue.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
