Waterloo Region, ON – Waterloo Regional Police Service has been advised that an arrest has been made in relation to the online message posted on October 16, 2015, causing the “lockdown” of the Waterloo campus of Wilfrid Laurier University.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) arrested a 22 year old male in Tottenham Hale, northern London, United Kingdom, on suspicion of malicious communication and he currently remains in custody pending further information.
Details of the arrest and potential charges are limited and members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service General Investigations Branch are in consultation with law enforcement agencies to garner further information.
The investigation involved several agencies including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the National Cyber Crime Unit – part of the National Crime Agency, the FBI and the MPS.
The lockdown on the Waterloo campus of Wilfrid Laurier University was lifted at 11:30 a.m. on Friday October 16, 2015 and the campus re-opened at that time as investigators were satisfied the campus was safe.
