Hawkesbury Police Press Releases

In the week of November 16th to November 23rd, Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to 182 occurrences. Five break and enter incidents were reported. Three incidents of assault and five incidents of theft were reported. In the last week, officers investigated two impaired driving related incidents. Out of these 182 occurrences, 22 concluded with charges.

IMPAIRED DRIVERS

(ALFRED-PLANTAGENET, ON) – On Sunday evening, November 22nd, shortly before 10:00pm, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Jean-Michel Cormier intercepted a 2006 Ford F-150 on County Road 17 just west of Old Highway 17 in Alfred-Plantagenet.

The Hawkesbury OPP officers were on lookout for the vehicle after receiving complaints from motorists of a possible impaired driver.

Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had his abilities to drive a motor vehicle impaired by alcohol. The male driver displayed heavy signs of impairment.

Consequently, the driver, Robert JONES (43 yrs) of Kingfisher Crescent in Ottawa, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– 253(1)(a) Driving While Ability Impaired- motor vehicle (Alcohol)

– 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

He was also charged under the Liquor Licence Act with the following section:

– 32(1) Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on December 09th, 2015 in L’Orignal.

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – In the night of November 23rd, shortly after midnight, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Raoul Doucet was flagged down by a motorist reporting a complaint of an impaired driver.

The driver was seen driving in Grenville, Quebec and around Town in Hawkesbury in an erratic way. The male driver of a black 2009 Mazda6 was intercepted by the officer when arriving at his residence on Tupper Street.

Interaction with the driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had his abilities to drive a motor vehicle impaired by alcohol.

Consequently, the driver, Roch JOANISSE (58 yrs) of Hawkesbury, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– 253(1)(a) Driving While Ability Impaired- motor vehicle (Alcohol)

– 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on December 16th, 2015 in L’Orignal.

BREAK AND ENTER

(CHAMPLAIN, ON) – The Hawkesbury OPP is investigating a break and enter that occurred sometime between November 16th and 17th in a shed situated in the backyard of a residence on Bay Road in Champlain.

The investigation would suggest that someone entered the shed by breaking in through the front door.

Air impact tools, nailer, drills, weed-eater grass trimmer, a laser level and other items were stolen.

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – The Hawkesbury OPP is investigating a break-in to a backyard shed at a Ghislain Street residence in Hawkesbury.

The investigation revealed that someone entered the shed by breaking in through the door. A Black & Decker double grinder and a Delta Shop master/disk sander were stolen.

Further investigation also revealed that the culprit attempted to breach as well the rear patio door of the residence, but no entry was gained.

It is believed that the break & enter occurred sometime between November 18th and 20th.

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – Constable Bradley Giroux of the Hawkesbury OPP is investigating a break and enter incident that occurred at a Nelson Street East residence in Hawkesbury.

The investigation revealed that someone gained access to the residence sometime between November 18th and 20th where electronic items such as a 50 inch Sony Bravia Television, Acer laptop and an Ipad mini were stolen.

The matter is still under investigation.

DOMESTIC INVESTIGATION

(ALFRED-PLANTAGENET, ON) – On Wednesday November 18th, Hawkesbury OPP officers responded to a report of a domestic situation at a residence in Wendover.

The investigation revealed that the couple had an argument which, at some point, the victim became concerned for her safety and wanted to call police. The adult male grabbed the phone from the victim and prevented her from calling or leaving the residence by blocking access to the door. The female victim finally escaped and ran to her neighbor, which the police were called.

A 42-year-old male from Wendover was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following section:

– 266 Assault – Spousal

– 279(2) Forcible Confinement

He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on December 09th, 2015 in L’Orignal. The name of the accused person is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.
