(ASSIGINAK TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Sunday December 6, 2015 at 11:45 pm The Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting an R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Enforcement) stop check on Clover Valley Road near the Rainbow Ridge Golf Course in Assiginack Township, Ontario. An unidentified female had approached officers explaining she had a set of keys for a vehicle where there was a highly intoxicated male passed out in the vehicle. Officers went to investigate and another male began to obstruct the officers becoming belligerent and allegedly spat into one of the officers faces. He was arrested and taken into custody.
As a result of this investigation Jonathon DEBASSIGE age 34 of Wikwemikong First Nation, Ontario has been arrested and charged with the following offenses.
Assault Police contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Threatening Death or Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused was later released from custody on a Promise to Appear with conditions to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on January 26, 2016 in Gore Bay, Ontario.
