(PORT HOPE, ON) –On December 10, 2015 at 11:18pm Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received reports of a wrong way driver in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 east of County Road 28. Witnesses soon advised of a collision involving the wrong way vehicle, a blue Volkswagen, and a transport truck.
Police attended and determined that the driver was in the process of making a U-turn when he struck a westbound tractor-trailer. The 28 year old truck driver from Quebec and his occupant were not injured. The other driver sustained non-life threatening injuries. The highway was partially blocked while officers investigated the scene.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 72 year old Cobourg man, was charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
