Pedestrian Killed While Driver Tries To Evade RIDE – SIU Invoke Mandate

(GUELPH, ON) – Members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted an R.I.D.E. check at 3:00 a.m. this morning at the intersection of Rose and Arthur Streets in Guelph, Ontario.

While attempting to stop and check a vehicle, the driver failed to stop for officers. Police followed the route of the vehicle a short distance down the road where it had come into collision with a pedestrian and discovered the driver had fled.

The female was rushed to an area hospital where she was succumbed to her injury. Guelph City Police continue a parallel criminal investigation into the circumstances.

The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
