(LONDON, ON) – Members of the Middlesex Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Wellington Road at 6:38 p.m. this evening to a report of a driving complaint.
Police observed the suspect vehicle and stopped it. The officer had formed grounds for a roadside screening test when the driver fled from police at a high rate of speed. Police discontinued further action.
A short distance down the highway at Veterans Memorial Parkway, police were signalled by bystanders that a vehicle had run off the roadway and rolled over.
Police located the driver of the vehicle which had earlier fled from police. He was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
