On December 19/20, 2015 between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., the Guelph Police Service conducted a RIDE program in the City of Guelph. 305 vehicles were checked by officers with ten roadside screening tests being administered. Nine of the ten drivers were found to be within the legal limit. One driver was issued a three day driving licence suspension for registering an alert and had her vehicle towed. A second driver stopped during the RIDE program was found to be a suspended driver as well as wanted by the Toronto Police Service. RIDE Officers arrested the 46-year-old Guelph male, issued him two Part III summons to appear in Guelph POA court and turned him over to Toronto Police. His vehicle was also towed. Officers also issued five other Highway Traffic Act offence notices to other drivers who passed through the RIDE lanes.
RIDE Officers encountered many individuals who had either a designated driver or planned for a safe ride home prior to going out for the evening.
Guelph Police would like to remind drivers that they will continue to conduct random spot checks between now and the holiday season for persons driving under the influence of alcohol. Registering breath samples over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood will result in an immediate 90 day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension. Convictions for Impaired Driving and Driving with Over 80 mgs will both result in a minimum of 12 month driving prohibition.
Two car collision
On December 19, 2015, at 8:05 a.m., Guelph Police, Guelph Fire and Guelph Wellington EMS (GWEMS) were dispatched to a collision that occurred at Gordon Street and Maltby Road. It is alleged that a 21-year-old Guelph female driving a red Toyota Corolla was eastbound on Maltby, failed to stop for the stop sign and collided with a 2009 black Mazda 6, driven by a 38-year-old Stoney Creek male. Both drivers were transported to Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries. The motor vehicles were demolished as a result of the collision. The female has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with disobey stop sign –fail to stop.

Collision in parking lot
On December 19, 2015, at 1:20 p.m., the Guelph Police and GWEMS were dispatched to a collision involving a Mitsubishi Outlander SUV colliding with a cement sign at the entrance to the Hartsland Zehrs on Edinburgh Road South. The 17-year-old female driver was treated by GWEMS on scene. The motor vehicle sustained significant damage and the sign was destroyed. As a result of the impact, an unoccupied motor vehicle parked in the parking lot was also damaged.

Two car collision
On December 19, 2015 at 9:08 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a collision on Edinburgh Road South near Stone Road. Investigation determined that a grey Volvo SUV travelling east across Edinburgh was struck by a green Landrover SUV travelling south. The driver of the Volvo, a 55-year-old Campbellville woman was transported to Guelph General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Landrover, a 21-year-old Milton female, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. It’s alleged that the driver of the Landrover disobeyed a traffic control and was subsequently charged with red light- fail to stop. Damage estimates are approximately $15,000.

Argument leads to charges
On December 19, 2015 at 2:07 a.m., the Guelph Police went to an establishment on Silvercreek Parkway South for the report of a disturbance. It is alleged that an argument between three females escalated when one of them smashed two mirrors and then pulled the fire alarm. She was arrested by police.
Glessanda Sparks, 26 years of Quebec has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and false fire alarm. She will appear in court on January 22, 2016.
Drive over 80 mg – arrest
On December 19, 2015 at 3:22 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle at Regent Street and Rose Street. Police spoke with the female driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. She failed this test and was arrested.
Samantha Norman-Barnes, 20 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. She will appear in court on January 15, 2016.
Impaired driver arrested
On December 19, 2015 at 8:58 p.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Victoria Road North. Investigation alleged that the driver’s ability to drive was impaired due to alcohol consumption and he was arrested.
Michael Zapparoli, 45 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He will appear in court on February 5, 2016.
Hit and run leads to arrest
On December 19, 2015 at 2:00 a.m., the Guelph Police received the report that a pickup truck struck a parked car in the plaza parking lot at the corner of Victoria Road North and Woodlawn Road east and then left the area. Police located the responsible driver and truck a short distance away. Investigation alleges that he was impaired and he was arrested.
Stuart Carvill, 44 years of Kitchener has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with fail to report accident. He will appear in court on January 12, 2016.
Theft from cars
Over the weekend the Guelph Police received twelve reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Kathleen Street, King Street, Pleasant Road, Bard Boulevard, Westwood Road, Woolwich Street, Elmhurst Crescent, Victoria Road South, Speedvale Avenue West and three on Woodlawn Road West.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Youths arrested
On December 18, 2015 at 3:10 p.m., the Guelph Police received the report of a male making threats and holding a knife in the College Avenue West area. It is alleged that two male youths, known to the victim, approached him and began to threaten him. As the victim tried to walk away, one of the males brandished a knife and made another threat before leaving the area. Both males were later arrested by police.
A 16-year-old Guelph male has been charged with uttering threats, possession of a prohibited weapon and weapons dangerous. He will appear in court on January 13, 2016.

Break and enter
On December 18, 2015 at 7:04 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Gosling Gardens residence to investigate a break and enter. The resident returned home and observed a male leaving through an upper story window. No theft has been reported.
