Brantford Crime Briefs – 18Jan2016

Type: Damage to Property (Residential)

Incident: 1870-16

Location: Park Avenue

Details: On Saturday January 16, 2016 at approximately 9:30 p.m. unknown person(s) shot a BB at a home on Park Avenue. The BB struck the front glass window of the home leaving a small hole in the glass. A vehicle parked in the driveway was also damaged. The rear window was struck causing the glass to shatter.

Type: R.I.D.E Program-HTA Offences

Incident: 1877-16

Location: Colborne Street West

Details: On Saturday, January 16th, 2016 at around 10:00 p.m. officers set up Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) lanes on Colborne Street West. Shortly after the RIDE lanes were set up a vehicle was stopped and an 18 year old driver was spoken to regarding his sobriety. An odour of alcohol was detected coming from the breath of the driver by the officer and a can of opened beer was observed in the vehicle.

The driver was given a breath demand at the roadside and registered a pass, however did register a reading indicating alcohol was in the driver’s system. The driver, a fully licenced class G driver is defined as a young driver who is not permitted under the Highway Traffic Act to have any amount of alcohol while being the driver of a motor vehicle. The driver’s licence was automatically seized and suspended for 24 hours. The driver was charged under the HTA with ‘Young driver with blood alcohol above zero’.

The accused an 18 year old Princeton man was also issued a fine under the Liquor Licence Act for ‘Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor’

Type: Break and Enter (Commercial)

Incident: 1916-16

Location: Albion Street – Polish Hall

Details: Sometime overnight on Saturday January 16, 2016 unknown person(s) broke into a business on Albion Street. Alcohol was reported stolen.

Type: Trespass by Night

Incident: 2000-16

Location: Murray Street

Details: On Monday January 18, 2016 shortly before 3:00 a.m. a woman on Murray Street heard a knock on her door, answered the door and allowed a man inside her home. The man stated he needed to use her bathroom. The woman mistakenly thought the person at her door was someone she knew until he was inside of her home. The woman quickly told the man to leave her home and she closed and locked her door. The unknown man continued to knock on her door and the woman called 9-1-1 emergency. The man had fled the home prior to police arriving. While the police were searching for the man another neighbour reported that an unknown man was at the rear of another home just up the road also on Murray Street. Officers located the accused hiding in a backyard and appeared to be under the influence of some type of drug. The accused, a 42 year old Brantford man was arrested for Trespass by Night and Breach of Probation. The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
