(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – Today at approximately 3:00 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report from a concerned parent who advised that her son was approached earlier by an unknown male and female while walking on St. George Street at Gartshore Street in Fergus, Centre Wellington Township.
Investigation revealed that at approximately 12:00 p.m. a 16-year-old male Centre Wellington High School student was walking to his Co-op Program when he was approached by a beige Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) that contained two occupants. The female driver exited the vehicle and approached the student while the male passenger remained seated. The driver asked the teen if he wanted a ride. The teen declined and the driver returned to the vehicle and continued to drive westbound on St. George Street.
The female driver is described as Caucasian, approximately 40 years old with shoulder length blonde hair and an average build wearing a white winter coat.
The male passenger is described as Caucasian, approximately 50 years old with black, curly hair and a brown and grey moustache.
The vehicle is described as a beige Sport Utility Vehicle.
The Wellington County OPP is continuing with this investigation and if you have any information regarding this incident you are asked to call 1-888-310-1122. The Wellington County OPP wants to remind communities about “Stranger Safety”. It is important to teach our children how to react if someone tries to lure them into a vehicle. Education is the key. Reinforce to children that they should never accept rides from strangers – even in poor weather conditions.
