(HEARST, ON) – On January 19, 2016, at 8:07 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling Highway 663 when they observed a maroon commercial motor vehicle, driven by a male, travelling northbound. Shortly thereafter, a traffic stop was conducted and it was confirmed that the male driver was wanted for assault and was arrested. Police investigation led to reveal that the male was also in contravention of several provincial offences for which he was subsequently charged.
Denis POULIN, 44 of Hearst, Ontario has been charged with the following offences:
Assault contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
Drive commercial motor vehicle – improper licence contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA);
Drive commercial motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device contrary to section 41.2(13)(a) HTA;
Drive commercial motor vehicle – no valid Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) certificate contrary to section 16(2) HTA;
Fail to maintain daily log contrary to section 190(3) HTA.
The commercial motor vehicle was impounded for seven days in relation to the driver failing to install an ignition interlock device.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst on March 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. to answer to the criminal charge and at the Ontario Provincial Court in Hearst on March 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. for the HTA offences.
