Speeding Leads To Numerous Charges

(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) – On January 20, 2016 at approximately 11:32 p.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting radar speed enforcement and monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near Laird Road in the City of Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a 2003 Ford Mustang travelling southbound at a speed well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 143 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Further investigation revealed several other violations including that the vehicle was supposed to be equipped with an Ignition Interlock Device and it wasn’t.

His driver’s licence and vehicle were seized for a period of 7 days as per statute. The licence plates were removed from the vehicle and seized by police.

31-year-old Kamel RAOUF of Mississauga faces the following charges:

1) Race a motor vehicle – excessive speed HTA 172(1)

2) Owner operate motor vehicle on a highway – no insurance CAIA 2(1)(a)

3) Drive motor vehicle -not equipped with Ignition Interlock Device HTA 41.2(13)(b)

4) Use plate not authorized for vehicle HTA 12(1)(d)

5) Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver HTA Oreg 340/94 Sec. 5(1)

6) Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle HTA 7(5)(a)

He is to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on March 2, 2016 to answer to the charges.
