Man Face Numerous Charges After Utility Worker Confrontation And Foot Pursuit

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – On January 25, 2016, at 2:18 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was advised of an incident involving a violent male at a residence on Highway 11 in Haggart Township.

Police investigation revealed that Yves Rocheleau, 40, of ­­­Haggart Township, became angry at a utilities employee working on his property which led to the suspect intimidating the employee and damaging the utility worker’s motor vehicle.

The accused went on to attend a neighbour’s residence where he assaulted the owners and damaged their property after they refused to provide transportation for the accused.

The accused then left on his bicycle and attended a secondary residence on Highway 11 where he assaulted the owner of the residence with the bicycle and left in the owner’s motor vehicle towards the Town of Kapuskasing.

Shortly thereafter, police were able to locate the suspect and attempted a traffic stop however the accused fled from police. The accused was later located at a business on Gurney Road where he, again, fled from police which resulted in a foot chase that ended in his arrest.

The male was charged with the following criminal offences:

Three counts of Assault contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);

Assault with A Weapon contrary to section 267(a) CC;

Two counts of Mischief Under $5000 contrary to section 430(4) CC;

Robbery with Violence contrary to section 344(1)(b) CC;

Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) CC;

Criminal Harassment – Threatening Conduct contrary to section 264(2)(d) CC;

Unlawfully in Dwelling House contrary to section 349(1) CC;

Intimidation contrary to section 423(1)(a) CC;

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) CC;

Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer contrary to section 249.1(1) CC;

Driving While Disqualified contrary to section 259(4) CC, as well as;

Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) CC.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane, Ontario on January 27, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. for his bail hearing.
