(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – On Monday February 08, 2016, shortly before 2 a.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a Dodge Ram pickup truck travelling east bound on Hwy 7 south of St.Marys at a slow rate of speed. The officer followed the vehicle and determined the speed of the pickup truck to be significantly lower than the posted 80 km/h speed limit.
The pickup truck was pulled over by police after it turned north onto Perth Road 120A (extention of James St. South). The officer, while speaking to the male driver detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage being emitted from his breath. A roadside breath test was administered on the driver which he failed.
The driver was arrested and a subsequent search of his vehicle revealed that a loaded firearm was located inside. The firearm and ammunition was seized and the male driver was transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.
31-year-old Cho LAY of the Township of Perth South has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences; “driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood”, “possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm”, and “transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner”.
He remains in custody and is to appear at a bail hearing on Monday February 08, 2016 in Stratford Bail Court.
His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his motor vehicle has been impounded for a period of seven days.
