Tractor Trailer Driver Assaults Officer

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – On February 5, 2016, the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault.

At approximately 9:58 p.m. on February 5, 2016, an Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Enforcement Officer conducted a traffic stop of a commercial motor vehicle, on Hamilton Road, near Putnam Road.

When vehicle documents were requested, the tractor trailer driver struck the officer in the chest, and police were called. The officer did not require medical attention.

The 40-year old male driver, from London, Ontario, was arrested, and has been charged with assault a peace officer, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA), and is scheduled to answer the charge in a London court on March 3, 2016.
