(CALEDON, ON) – On March 3, 2016 at approx. 3:25 pm, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Mayfield Road between Airport Road and Innis Lake Road. The OPP’s Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) have attended the scene and assisted with the investigation. The highway has since been reopened to vehicular traffic.
The collision involved a Ford Focus travelling eastbound on Mayfield Road when a transport truck also travelling eastbound on Mayfield Road made contact with the Ford. Subsequently, the Ford travelled into the westbound lane making contact with another transport truck and trailer travelling in the opposite direction. The driver of the Ford, a 68 year old female resident of Caledon, is at the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Currently, the investigation is still on-going and charges are pending.
A leading cause of collisions that occur during the winter months is poor driving, not poor driving conditions.
Drivers play an important a role in keeping winter roads and highways safe; the winter months are a particularly important time to stay focused on the road and on other vehicles, and eliminate all distractions.
Slow down, stay alert and stay in control – these simple steps will go a long way in reducing the number of collisions on our roads.
