(HALIBURTON, ON) – On January 8, 2016 The Haliburton Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment began an investigation into a recovered stolen vehicle that was located and abandoned in the Head lake parking lot in the Township of Dysart et al. Officers were notified by the Peterborough Police Service that they were investigating a theft of a motor vehicle from a parking lot on Jameson Drive in Peterborough on January 7, 2016.
Through a police investigation and with the assistance of media and social media, 34-year-old Peter BITTNER from Peterborough was arrested and charged with the following:
· Possession of Property obtained by crime over 5,000 contrary to sec 354(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
· Theft of a motor vehicle contrary to sec 334(a) of the CC
· Drive while disqualified (7 counts) contrary to sec 259(4) of the CC
· Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to sec 733.1(1) of the CC
· Drive while under suspension contrary to sec 53(1.1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on April 6, 2016.
