(LEAMINGTON, ON) —On March 17, 2016 at 10:30 p.m. the Leamington OPP attended the scene of a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a cyclist. The crash occurred on Albuna Townline (County road 31) just south of Highway #3 in Leamington.
Investigators determined that the victim was riding his unlit bicycle northbound on County Road 31 wearing dark clothes when he collided with a Grey 2004 Pontiac Montana being driven by a 20 year old Tecumseh woman, also north bound on County Road 31.
Essex County OPP Technical Traffic Investigators attended the scene to obtain the detailed evidence of the scene. County Road 31 was closed from County Road 34 and Highway 3 for approximately 5 hours.
No charges are expected at this time with respect to female driver.
The deceased cyclist (who was pronounced deceased at the scene) is a Jean Francois Michaud, 34 years of Leamington. The regional coroner has ordered an autopsy which will be performed in London, Ontario.
