(PEMBROKE, ON) – On Monday March 28, 2016 at 1:50pm officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a head-on motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 involving a westbound Chevrolet pickup and an eastbound Hyundai SUV. The collision took place just west of Greenwood Rd on Highway 17 in Whitewater Region Township. A 51 year old male passenger in the Hyundai was deceased at the scene. The 19 year old female driver of the Hyundai was airlifted to hospital in critical condition. The 32 year old male driver of the Chevrolet was taken by land ambulance to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are on scene and Highway 17 is closed between Greenwood Road and Whitewater Road. Local detours are in place as the highway is expected to be closed well into the evening. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
