(PIKANGIKUM, ON) On Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at approximately 11:44 pm, officers from the Pikangikum Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and the Pikangikum Fire Department responded to a residential fire located on Dunsford Road on Pikangikum First Nation.
As a result of preliminary investigation, a number of persons have been confirmed deceased and there are a number of persons that remain unaccounted for.
The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), the OPP North West Region Crime Unit, the OPP Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) and the Office of the Fire Marshall are on scene investigating the fatal residential fire.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
