Phone Call to Police Leads to Dozens of Charges Laid

(CALEDON, ON) – On Thursday, March 24, 2016 officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a suspicious motor vehicle travelling along Bramalea Road. A resident of Caledon called police after they observed the vehicle with two different licence plates attached.

Due to the information provided by the public, police were able to locate and stop the vehicle on Bramalea Road. Through investigation, it was determined that the vehicle, as well as the front and rear licence plates had previously been reported to police as stolen.

As a result of the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle, Inderjit Singh JOHAL, 33, from Brampton was charged with the following offences: Driving While Disqualified, Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking Given by Officer in Charge, and three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000.

Further investigation into the traffic stop led to a male passenger within the vehicle, Sunjeet Singh KHARE, 33, from Brampton being charged with the following offences: Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, 3 counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, 13 counts of Fraud Over $5,000, 4 counts of Fraud Under $5,000, 2 counts of Identity Documents, 17 counts of Possession of a Credit Card, 16 counts of Possess- Credit Card Data, and 15 counts of Identity Theft – obtain or possess another person’s identity information.

Founder of modern policing, Sir Robert Peel, once stated that “police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police…” Once again, officers from the Caledon OPP Detachment would like to thank the public for all their assistance in reporting suspicious activity and crime to the police.
