Drunk Driver Runs Stop Sign On Belgrave Road Causing 9am Collision

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A collision investigation has led to two criminal charges being laid against a 32-year-old driver from Huron-Kinloss Township. Shortly after 9:00 a.m. on March 25th, 2016 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a two vehicle collision located at the intersection of Belgrave Road and Tower Line.

Police determined the accused was travelling southbound on Tower Line in a Ford Mustang when he failed to stop at the stop sign located at Belgrave Road. The Mustang entered into the intersection and collided with an eastbound Mazda pickup truck. Nobody was injured in the collision however both vehicles sustained significant damage.

Upon speaking with the driver of the Ford Mustang the investigating officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. The driver was placed under arrest for Driving a Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He later provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, David HALDENBY, 32 years of age from Huron-Kinloss has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and Dangerous Driving. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for April 18, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also was served with an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
