More Impaired Drivers Busted

(Napanee, ON)- On Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 2 a.m. officers with the Napanee detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver in the Town of Greater Napanee.

An officer noticed the suspect vehicle on Belleville Road in Napanee and followed the vehicle. After observing the vehicle being driven erratically the officer conducted a traffic stop on Dundas Street East and subsequently arrested the driver for impaired driving at 2:49 a.m.

Charged with impaired driving and over 80 mgs is 32 year-old Harvey Ryan SHARPE of Loyalist Township.

At 2:55 a.m. while officers were on scene dealing with the first impaired driver they heard tires squealing and a vehicle exiting a nearby business at a high rate of speed. Police observed a dark coloured sedan fishtailing as it came towards them. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which slowed initially, but then accelerated causing the officer to have to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.

The vehicle continued eastbound on Dundas Street and the driver lost control and crashed on the corner near Spring Side Park. The male driver and female passenger both fled the vehicle on foot but were apprehended. Both were transported to hospital where they were treated and released.

Charged under the Criminal Code with impaired driving and over 80 mgs causing bodily harm, flight from police causing bodily harm and take motor vehicle without owner’s consent is 24 year-old Adam BROOKS of Napanee. He also faces Highway Traffic Act charges of stunt driving – causing tires to lose traction and being a class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by a qualified driver.

At 4:21 a.m. officers with the Napanee OPP were dispatched to a report of a possible impaired driver on Hwy 33 westbound near the Glenora Ferry.

Information was that the vehicle was missing a tire, travelling on a rim at 40 km/h, going from one gravel shoulder to the other.

The suspect vehicle, a grey Pontiac Vibe, was located by police on Hwy 33 and stopped. The rear driver’s side tire was missing. At 4:45 a.m. the driver was arrested for impaired driving. Officers seized open liquor from within the vehicle.

Charged with impaired driving and over 80 mgs is 49 year-old Joseph FRENNETTE of Kingston.
