Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend. Here are some examples:

Apr 8:

A resident of a nursing home in Trent Hills was advised to consult a lawyer when he contacted police for advice on his Power of Attorney

Two disturbance calls that began on a social media site were dealt with by police, one in Brighton and the other in Campbellford. In both incidents youths were involved and no charges resulted

A Campbellford mother requested her adult daughter be removed from her home after she cooked bacon and ‘stunk up the house’. Her daughter willingly left and spent the night elsewhere. Alcohol was a contributing factor to the call being made.

Police provided advice to an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp couple whose teenaged son was caught attempting to sneak out of the house that night.

Apr 9:

A Hamilton Twp woman dialed 911 at 3:21am upset that her boyfriend arrived home 20 minutes later than she did after a night out of drinking together. Officers spoke to both parties and determined that alcohol consumption by the caller was the contributing factor to police being summoned. No charges resulted and both agreed to go to bed for the night.

Police responded to a domestic dispute at a Hamilton Twp home where a couple were arguing over which car they would use for errands and appointments that day. No charges resulted and one decided to spend some time elsewhere to re-think their relationship

A customer at a Brighton business contacted police to advise that he was unhappy with the service he received. Officers told him to contact that company’s head office as this was not a police matter.

Police were notified of a suspicious male in a blue pickup truck on an old railway bed in Percy Twp. Officers identified the male and determined that he checks traps in that area on a daily basis. No further action was required.

Apr 10:

A silver Nissan was measured to be travelling 165 km/h on Hwy 401 in the Brighton area. The driver, a 19 yr old man from Magnetawan First Nation, Ontario was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed. His car was impounded for seven days and licence suspended for the same period of time.

Police investigated a domestic dispute in Brighton resulting in an ex-partner being charged with breaching his bail conditions.

Police attended a disturbance call at a Trent Hills home which resulted in a young person being charged with Assault, Assault with a weapon, Utter Threats and breaching conditions of a court order. Names withheld.

Northumberland OPP officers also conducted two RIDE programs, investigated one accidental 911 call, 6 motor vehicle collisions and 25 traffic related complaints.
