RIDE Check Leads To Drug Charges

(HALIBURTON, ON) – On April 13, 2016 shortly after 7:30p.m., members from the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on County Road 503 at Milburn Road in the Township of Minden Hills.

A grey pick-up truck approached the RIDE check. Upon speaking to the four occupants of the vehicle, officers observed open alcohol inside the vehicle. Through further investigation officers also located and seized a small quantity of unmarked cigarettes and suspected marihuana.

The male driver, Vincent HALKET, 54 years old of Dysart et al has been charged with

· Possess unmarked cigarettes- Sec 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act (TTA)

· Possess Schedule II substance-Cannabis Marihuana-over 30grams- sec 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

Male passengers, Hunter HALKET, 21 years old, Sawyer HALKET 20 years old, and female passenger, Halina SZCZESNY 58 years old all of Dysart et al have been charged with the following:

· Consuming liquor in other than licenced premises, residence or private place- sec 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA)

· Possess Schedule II substance-Cannabis Marihuana-over 30 grams- sec 4(1) of the CDSA

All four accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on June 1, 2016.
