(CENTRAL FRONTENAC TOWNSHIP) – On the 20th of April 2016, Frontenac OPP officers were conducting RIDE checks at the intersection of Road 38 and Westport Road in the Township of South Frontenac.
Shortly after 1:00 a.m. a van approached the RIDE Program and through investigation the 72-year-old male driver and 70-year-old male passenger were arrested and are currently facing charges under the Tobacco Tax Act (TTA). Police seized 100 boxes of unmarked cigarettes with an approximate street value of $70,000.
The driver and passenger were charged with:
Possess unmarked cigarettes for sale – section 29(1) of the TTA
Possess unmarked cigarettes – section 29(2) of the TTA
The defendants will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sharbot Lake on September 21, 2016
