(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County detachment investigated a collision at an Oakwood Avenue, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.
On Friday, April 22, 2016 at approximately 9:21 a.m., OPP and Norfolk County Paramedics responded to a single motor vehicle collision.
Investigation has determined that a vehicle was stopped in the parking lot of St Joseph’s School. The driver, a 41-year-old female of Norfolk County, Ontario exited the driver side of the vehicle and attended to the passenger side.
A 14-year-old male passenger, of Norfolk County, Ontario then exited the vehicle and attended the driver’s side. The passenger then accidentally put the vehicle into gear while attempting to change the radio station. The vehicle then struck the female driver and ran her over.
As a result, the 41-year-old female suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment. She was then transported to a Hamilton area hospital for further assessment.
The passenger did not suffer any injuries.
“No charges have been laid however police are urging all parents and caregivers to speak to their children about the dangers of being behind the wheel of any motor vehicle. The keys for the vehicle should be removed at all times to prevent any incidents of putting the vehicle accidentally into gear.
