Cow Killed In Collision – Humans Suffer Minor Injuries

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a motor vehicle collision at a St Johns Road East, Woodhouse, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Thursday, April 28, 2016 at approximately 9:30 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving an animal.

Through the course of investigation, it was determined that a motor vehicle was travelling westbound on St Johns Road East and the driver of the motor vehicle collided with a 1,700 pound cow that was standing in the roadway. The animal appears to have escaped from a secure field just before the collision occurred.

As a result of the collision, the 76-year-old driver and 74-year-old passenger, both of Norfolk County, Ontario suffered minor injuries. The animal was deceased.

“It’s not always possible to avoid a collision with an animal, particularly if it suddenly runs onto the road. But drivers can take sensible precautions to minimize the risk of a collision. Motorists are being urged to drive with caution and within the speed limit and to be aware of their surroundings at all times. Predictable is preventable, make safety your priority” comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP.
