Acid Truck Rollover Leads To Propane Truck Hitting Power Lines

(PEMBROKE, ON) – Just before 11:00 am on the 30th of May 2016, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle roll over on Zion Line in the Twp. of Whitewater Region.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a north bound box truck on Zion Line carrying chlorine, sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid left the road way and rolled over onto its side into the ditch. The driver was not injured and exited the vehicle safely. A hydro pole was struck and damaged.

A south bound propane delivery truck made contact with the hydro wires that were across the road. Hydro One attended to remove the wires. The propane delivery truck driver was not injured.

There is no evidence at this time of any chemical spill. The Twp. of Whitewater Region Fire Department, Hydro One and Renfrew County Paramedics are on scene. Zion line is closed between Beachburg Road and Sturgeon Mountain Road until trucks and contents can be removed safely. The Ministry of the Environment has been notified but is not on scene.
