(Deseronto, ON) – On Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at approximately 12:55 a.m. the Deseronto Fire Department was dispatched to a residential fire at 313 Main Street, Deseronto.
When the fire department arrived on scene, the residence – an unoccupied three unit rental property, was engulfed in flames. The fire department was able to contain the fire however there was extensive damage to the property and a neighbouring property.
Officers with the Napanee detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police attended the scene and the Office of the Fire Marshal was contacted and an investigator attended.
As a result of a joint investigation, 33 year-old Gregory NEIMAN of Deseronto has been arrested and charged with arson. Police also searched NEIMAN’S residence in Deseronto and located a Remington 525 bolt action .22 Long Rifle, assorted stolen property – including credit cards and identification, three GPS devices from vehicles (makes are Magellan and Garmin) and jewellery.
He faces further charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000 and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
NEIMAN faces additional charges of break and enter and theft under $5,000 from the Deseronto Fire Hall. This incident took place while firefighters were at the scene of the residential fire.
The accused was remanded into custody with a bail hearing scheduled for
June 6, 2016 at Provincial Court in Napanee.
