(ST. CLAIR TWP, ON)- On June 7, 2016 at approximately 6:30 p.m. members of the Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the intersection of Kimball Road and LaSalle Line, St. Clair Township to investigate a single motor vehicle collision.

Investigation revealed that a Dodge Caravan was travelling east bound on LaSalle Line approaching the stop sign at Kimball Road. The driver of the Caravan, a 61 year old male, alleges that at that time, a dog entered his path at which time he attempted to avoid striking the animal by swerving from the travelled portion of the roadway, onto the boulevard, striking a hydro pole. The hydro pole was sheared from its base and was being held up by guide wires and hydro lines. The van sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene. The driver was uninjured.

The intersection of Kimball Road at LaSalle Line and portions of Kimball Road, north and south bound, were closed while the hydro pole was secured / repaired. The investigation is ongoing.

The OPP are reminding motorists that if an animal suddenly enters your path, break firmly, control the steering wheel and attempt to stop safely. Making an immediate decision to leave the roadway in an attempt to avoid an animal could put yourself, your passengers, pedestrians and other motorists in grave danger.
